Disrupting Bias to Improve Your Approach To Service and Care

The strength of implicit biases are that they can help us think and make decisions quickly. The downside of implicit biases is that they are unconscious and we do not cognitively think of the extent of their impact on our thinking and decision-making. Once we become aware of them, we have more choice over their influence on us.

The DISRUPT (Discover, Investigate, Shift, Reframe, Understand, Prepare and Train) method to reduce bias by discovering your blind spots, identifying their root causes, shifting your mindset and reframing negative narratives, understanding your brain’s resistance to changing beliefs, preparing your brain for new beliefs and behaviors, and learning to continually retrain your brain.

This will guide learners to confront cognitive and emotional biases so we can become more emotionally and socially intelligent and be intentional about disrupting our own bias.
